What is important to one.......
We are having a juried student show at our art gallery this month. It's taken a lot of planning and of course, it's pretty much been left on our shoulders. Because we are the only one who cares about keeping this running and interesting. These artist people have been given a chance of a lifetime and not running with it. So we scamper along and drag them with us. We basically are getting a building space that costs about 6G's a month, in a prime location for nothing. We pay them a portion of our sales, that's it! We will be there until they lease the place, which in this economy could be a long while. It's been since last November so far. I'm just trying to use this opportunity to meet people and get my name out there. It has also given me a purpose in life and opened up other facets of my life that had been buried. With the juried show, we wanted to give other people the same opportunity that we have been given, to show their work. Student entries will start coming in about 2 weeks or so and that will be interesting to see if we got the word out enough to fill the place. We basically can't plan for more than a month or so out because we could get booted at any time. We are open 6 days a week, but have an opening of one kind or another about every month and a half to two months. So, hubby and I have become quite the marketers, art curators, etc. Who Knew?

That's great. As they say, those that can, do. Those who can't get left behind - -- - or something like that. Your efforts will come back to you.
That is such a great opportunity to get your work shown, become familiar with new artists and do something you enjoy!!
Its important to seize opportunities like this - and the networking opportunities are important.
Bob-I just don't see how given this opportunity, you sit back and don't do anything with it. It's crazy how people don't appreciate a good thing when it's right in front of them.
Gray-It's a whole long story. We as a group were asked if the 6 of us wanted to start this business, just out of the blue. We all accepted and opened a business license, put in money (about $300) each to get it started. We all met in the class we are in at the local college. So, I wish I could say I could boot them to the curb, but it is theirs as much as it is mine. We are a co-op.
Artist- That is why I stay and really am trying to make the best out of it. Plus, the lighting is great and when I sit the gallery I paint. Great studio time for me!! With this next show, we won't have much of our work showing. Maybe a piece or two, but hoping to fill the place with student work. Two advantages there. 1. Helping students get their work seen. 2. Opening reception will bring in many friends and family to see their art, in return will bring more awareness of our gallery. At least that's our thoughts.
